Listen & Learn

Have you ever wondered what inspired a composer or why are certain pieces chosen for a concert?  What is a concert, anyway?  What are we “listening for"?

Listen and Learn Pre-Concert Talks provide the chance to find out. Designed for young people and interested adults, you can join Artistic Director, Orcenith Smith, guest conductors and artists, and Philharmonic Orchestra of Indianapolis musicians as they offer engaging presentations about the works, the composers and ideas for the concert that lies ahead.

These 20-minute pre-concert presentations take place one half-hour prior to each series concert in the Studio Theatre at the

Pike Performing Arts Center.

Listen Up!

Listen Up! is an educational collaboration between the Phil and Indianapolis Public Schools. The program uses videos and recordings of Philharmonic concerts to help teachers introduce third-grade students to beautiful symphonic music.

At the end of the session, the all-volunteer Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a concert for students. The concert will include the music the students have been studying, instrument demonstrations, and fun facts about playing in an orchestra.
